I totally agree that this film is very unusual and not so surprising from Walter Hill, a big specialist in grabe B pictures, but a high rank B movies, not garbage films at all. This story is interesting on many points, but is far from being flawless. But topics that take risks are never flawless. I did not appreciate this much. The editing could have been a little simpler; that's my own opinion. But seeing Sigourney Weaver as the heavy of the feature is also a rather good surprise. OMG… so poor.<br/><br/>I accidentally downloaded this movie and played it when my friend came over for scrabble night. We thought, great cast, great movie. But no.<br/><br/>Somebody tried really really really hard to make a cult-classic but failed miserably and utterly. The 'silence of the lambs' feel leaves a bad taste in the mouth because it is a form of unacceptable plagiarism.<br/><br/>My friend instantly knew that the man was going to be a woman, and she could equally predict which actress this was going to be. That was impressive, yet the transformation as portrayed in the film poorly executed.<br/><br/>Naturally we had to see a penis, because penises are the new vaginas. But truly, no man wants to look at a penis. Filmmakers should understand that females forms are often beautiful and artistic. The penis is an ugly little monster that is hidden downstairs for exactly that reason. So, bloody hippy filmmakers: Lets not do the penis. Please! Halfway through we switched off the movie and started playing scrabble. So much more fun, and a much better way to waste time. Walter Hill’s legacy of pushing the edges of genre conventions made the prospect of (Re)Assignment, at least on paper, potentially dangerous. But the filmmaker’s touch is completely lost here, and the only danger the film winds up posing is to the time spent by those who choose to watch it.
